Grupo Bella is a multi-faceted performance ensemble from Los Angeles, California. With roots in Mariachi, they perform a broad assortment of music spanning many different cultures, genres and time periods, everything from traditional mariachi, boleros, Son Jarocho, Son Huasteco, Mexican pop, American classics, tropical music, salsa, cumbias and more. The group uses Mariachi instrumentation to perform many different styles of music adding a modern twist to Mariachi music while still preserving it's essence. Their mission and passion is to bring to light the breadth of Mexican folk music, and to interpret with the originality and sound of Grupo Bella to audiences. Vanessa Ramirez, director of Grupo Bella, is a Grammy Award winning and nominated vocalist and composer. Along with harpist Michael Tejada, she frequently travels throughout Mexico researching folk music repertoire, and genres to honor the music and its traditions. The band is completed with lovely and talented vocalists and instrumentalists Maya Arce, Maria Reyes and Diana McConnell. All of the artists in Grupo Bella have studied music in prestigious universities and have also worked on Grammy nominated/winning albums. While in Utah, Grupo Bella will be providing two student outreach events, working with students and joining them for Saturday performances at the Dia de los Muertos en Ogden celebration.
